Have you ever considered taking a self-defense class or ever wonder how you would defend yourself if you were ever attacked? What kinds of things should we as women be aware of? And, what else can we do to keep our children safe when we take them to a crowded public place? Well, listen to this week’s episode!
We’ve got an interview with a remarkable man, Andrew Wooten who decided to do something when someone important to him was attacked. He is the founder of Just be safe, a business that he has created to help men and women learn about personal safety and self-defense. We also speak to another fabulous mompreneur, Michele Welsh, the creator of Safety Tat which is just what our children need to keep safe whenever we take them to any crowded public place such as a theme park or shopping mall.
First, I have an insightful conversation with Andrew about every aspect of safety. (He has over 19 years of experience .) We discuss the role self-defense classes have in giving us the tools we need should we decide to fight back. With a self-defense class, we are given the choice of either leaving the situation or the choice of fighting back. We also talk about that “bad feeling” we sometimes get when we’re in a parking garage or walking home late at night. He stresses to us the importance of following our intuition or our gut instinct. We shouldn’t shrug off that feeling at all. That feeling can save our lives. He further emphasizes that “You are your best weapon.” (Huh, I never thought of myself as a weapon… which Charlie’s Angel would I want to be?!) A 5′3” weapon of destruction!Watch out!
He also continues to share with us three important things we need to do when we encounter a stranger wherever we are. (I was pleased to discover that I do two of the three he suggested.) On his website, you will be fascinated that he also discusses the area of place of worship safety. I was shocked to find out why he needed to have that as a topic of education. I could go on and on about Andrew, but I won’t. You have to listen. He also is available to come down from Jacksonville, Florida for a special class. So, if you want to have one, just let me know and I’ll be more than happy to organize it!
Then, our second guest is Michele Welsh. She’s the dynamic mom of two and in one moment thought of the fantastically simple, yet unique invention called the Safety Tat! It’s a temporary tatoo that you put on your children before you take them anywhere you think they may get lost. She’s done her research and it’s absolutely safe!FDA safe! It’s practical, appealing to even your pickiest child, and best of all, you have additional insurance should your child accidentally wander off! All they have to do is show the tatoo and it has your contact number on there! Your frightened child doesn’t even have to know how to speak. They just show the tatoo! Genius!!! ( I wish I had the mommy-inventor-cool-ideas gene…) Oh, and check her out on CNN when her husband nominated her for Nancy Grace’s Extraordinary Parent http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2008/02/05/ng.epc.safety.tat.cnn?iref=videosearch.
I had so much fun talking with her during this interview. You have to log onto her site. It’s so well done and I ‘m so impressed by all the information that she has. And, the cost of the tatoos is so affordable! What a great price for peace of mind! My children loved their tatoos. I told Michele that her product will be a verb soon… “Hey, don’t forget to SafetyTat the kids before we go to Disney…” Just like Google, but Safety Tat.
And, finally, we have a fun Expo for all of us Central Florida parents! On Feb. 23rd and Mar. 1st, there is a great Fun Expo for families to go to! We meet Tracey Burchard who is the IT woman for this expo. She does everything for us to reap the rewards of all her hard work. This Fun Expo is for us parents to learn about the different camps available to us over the summer as well as additional parenting resources. Listen to find out where these fun events are going to be and learn about all the camps! She’s organized some fabulous prizes as well. We will be at the March 1st event! So make sure you stop by our Parents Everywhere booth!
Whew! That’s a lot for one show! But, we had lots of information that we KNOW will help you and your family. Happy Listening!
